Designed by James Krogen, the KE52 combines classic, timeless style with exceptional seakeeping and efficiency. Her plumb stem, raised bow, and broad beam forward allow her to slice through the waves with ease while providing surprising space in her accommodations. Her low profile allows her to get under bridges as low as 15′ and with a draft of just 4′, she’ll take you places most 50 footers won’t. Her semi-displacement hull delivers trawler-like efficiency at displacement speeds with true cruise capabilities in the mid-to-upper teens. And her generous keel provides stability and protection for her twin 26×25 propellers.
Boarding a Krogen Express couldn’t be easier with a large transom door and wide boarding gates on either side of the spacious, covered cockpit. Ample storage for lines, fenders, cleaning supplies, and more is provided by the cavernous lazarette below. Entering the salon through double, watertight aluminum doors, her owners are treated to an inviting cherry wood interior. Along with her sumptuous joinery, old world craftsmanship is obvious with the quality of her appointments and overall fit and finish. Legendary Krogen livability is evidenced by the large side windows and generous headroom along with the integral galley-up design. Inviting Stressless recliners to port and an L-settee to starboard are perfectly situated for enjoying the built-in Samsung LCD TV and Bose surround sound home theater system. To port is generous additional underdeck storage and a built-in bookcase featuring fiddled shelves and still more lockers.
The covered aft deck is accessed by wide, full-depth boarding gates on both sides and in the transom. 4 folding teak deck chairs and a cocktail table provide for comfortable entertaining. Steps on either side allow for easy access to the side decks. Hawse pipes allow for line handling both aft and to the sides. A Scandvik shower in the transom provides hot and cold water for washing down. Speakers overhead are controlled by the wired Fusion remote to starboard. Located in the forward bulkhead to starboard are the 75′ Cablemaster shorepower cord, dockside water and cable TV inlets, freshwater outlet, and 110V receptacle. Accessed through the generous boarding gate, the fiberglass swim platform allows aft access and can be boarded from the folding ladder beneath. LED blue/white underwater lights were added by her owner for nighttime viewing below. The spacious lazarette is accessed through a hatch in the teak sole on the centerline.
Beneath the cockpit sole, accessed through a hatch, is a surprisingly spacious lazarette. In addition to the stern thruster, steering gear, and davit motor/pump assembly, there is abundant storage available for lines, fenders, cleaning supplies, boat hook, folding bikes, emergency tiller, secondary anchor, and more.
Located to starboard, the comfortable L-shaped settee, covered in subtle-striped blue fabric, has storage beneath and a nice end table forward. The cherrywood hi-lo table has leaves that fold out for expanded seating capacity and can be moved outside for dining al fresco. To port are a pair of comfortable Stressless reclining chairs. Silhouette shades provide privacy and protection from the sun while custom end panels and tie backs add style.
Below the salon you’ll find the house battery bank (3 Mastervolt AGM 8Ds (2017) at 810 Ah total, a dedicated stern thruster bank, Cable Master drum (75′ 50 A cord), Mastervolt Combi 4000 Watt inverter / 200 Amp charger, and Sounddown mufflers. There’s also a 2000 gph Rule bilge pump and the water lift muffler for the Northern Lights genset. Access is simple with both a day hatch and larger service hatch in support of major mechanical work.
The gourmet galley is located up where her chef can always be part of the activity. She’s well equipped for meal preparation with a 3-burner, Force 10 propane range, 14 cu. ft. GE refrigerator/freezer, GE microwave oven, and deep Elkay sink with pullout sprayer faucet. Neutral Corian counter tops are easy to maintain and will complement any decor, while the raised section is ideal for serving crew and guests. Traditional round port lights provides ventilation while abundant storage ensures a good home can be found for all provisions. Beneath the starboard side bookcase, the U-line ice maker frees up space in the ice box and ensures drinks will be well chilled.
The centerline helm console in the raised pilothouse is equipped with a full complement of Garmin navigational electronics, all within easy reach of the fine Buff Ultraleather Stidd helm chair. Precise Teleflex Morse controls allow smooth control of the twin 480hp Yanmar 6-cylinder diesels while her rudders are guided by a custom, handcrafted cherry helm wheel. Electronics include a pair of 12″ Garmin 5212 chartplotters, a matched Garmin autopilot, a 3rd smaller Garmin 492 chartplotter that serves as a dedicated depth display, and a Uniden UM625C VHF radio. Two large chart drawers and a wide, lighted table to starboard allow for easy storage and use of paper charts. Side Power bow and stern thrusters assure confident close quarters handling. Controls for the dual trumpet Kahlenberg horns, intermittent Exalto wiper/washer system, Maxwell windlass, and Lenco electric trim tabs are all close at hand. A Yacht Controller remote makes for easier single hand operation with wireless control of both thrusters, both transmissions, and the windlass.
