Cabo Yachts came into the Sport Fishing boat scene in 1991 with their first production model, a 35’ Flybridge Convertible which garnered rave reviews. Cabo carried that momentum into producing some of the highest regarded Sport Fishing Yachts in the industry. They are best known for their Express and Flybridge models ranging in size from 31’ to 52’, known for quality, performance and mechanical prowess. Acquired in 2006 by Brunswick, they continued to manufacture boats in their California facility until 2010 when Brunswick consolidated production with their Hatteras brand in New Bern, NC. After the decline of industry sales and other contributing factors, Cabo was sold to Versa Capital Management and production was ceased.
When Henry Mohrschladt and Michael Howarth started Cabo Yachts in 1988 they set out to establish a new standard for Sport Fishing Yachts and accomplished their goal. With every boat, they produced their reputation grew as a great sport fishing manufacturer with older boats still on the market commanding a premium. They offered rugged designs with classic Sport Fish lines and their boats were known for their easy access to the engine room and tidy electrical wiring.
The express models range from 31’ to 52’ and are known for their luxurious interiors with ample headroom, upscale appointments, and choices for sleeping arrangements allowing for more bunks or private staterooms. A wide beam, large cockpit for fishing and Cabo’s attention to detail and practicality made these yachts very popular with the sport fishing community. Their Flybridge Convertible models also had the same features that made the express models top in their segment, with the added comfort of a salon and more interior space. Their galley-up design leading into an open salon offers an owner the ability to entertain and cook the day’s catch all in one space.
Cabo continued to improve on their designs as they offered a deep-V haul with varying flared hulls for a dryer and more comfortable ride, which combined with speed to produce a truly seaworthy yacht. This evolution continued with cored haul sides to reduce weight and prop pockets to reduce draft and increase overall efficiency. These boats performed well with several engine choices, and comfort and speed were never a compromised. They cruised in the mid 20 to 30 knots no matter the optional engine choice and size of the vessel.
Cabo Yachts offer a premium sportfishing experience, with great sea keeping abilities, attention to small details and robust engineering. Models will come equipped with ample storage both in the cabin and in the cockpit, including gunwale storage, ice boxes, and refrigeration. Cabo Yachts took a no-compromise approach to building a sportfishing yacht, melding both luxury and fishing into a great overall package.
