Galati Maritimo Muster in Key West For Super Boat Races

Galati Yacht Sales and Maritimo Yacht owners rendezvoused at the Superboat World Championships in Key West, FL to cheer on the Gold Coast Maritimo Offshore Racing team.

Festivities started Thursday with a kickoff party aboard GYS M58 and M64 Yachts at Stock Island Marina. Throttle man Ross Willaton made a guest appearance. Fans were able to take photos and raise their glasses to wish Ross and the rest of the Maritimo Race Team good luck in the upcoming races for the weekend.

On Friday, race fans boarded the Maritimo Yachts and headed out to watch the races.  Siting at turn one, guests were able to enjoy the energy and excitement. Unfortunately, for the Maritimo team, a blower belt to the supercharger failed during the start of the race.

Friday night Team Galati and Team Maritimo attended the Boat Parade on Duval Street and the VIP cocktail party at Lik Art Gallery.

Saturday, the Maritimo mechanical team rushed into action and had the boat ready for final day of racing on Sunday. Team Galati and Fans took the opportunity to tour Key West and join in camaraderie of the festivities around town.  All in our matching race shirts!

Sunday is Final Race Day! Race fans met at Stock Island Marina for lunch on the docks and then headed out to the races!

Maritimo was running neck and neck with the boat that ultimately won the world championships when a blown steering hose ended their hopes.

The boat was traveling at more then 120MPH when the failure occurred and the vessel was sent spinning around and slammed stern first into the water breaking a tunnel tab completely off. “They were neck and neck with the CMS Offshore Racing boat that ultimately won and had it not been for the steering hose mishap things would have been very different,” say Greg Haines, Maritimo Sales and Marketing Manager.

Everyone was safe and the race fans still had a wonderful time despite the mishap and plan to attend the Maritimo Muster with...

Maritimo Racing in the World Championship

Gold Coast based Maritimo Offshore Racing was running neck and neck with the boat that ultimately won the  world championships at the  Key West based  Superboat World Championships last weekend when a blown steering hose ended their hopes.

The team had run fourth in the first day of racing last Wednesday and was travelling well on Friday when a blower belt to the supercharger failed. The Maritimo mechanical team rushed into action and had the boat ready for the final day of racing on Sunday.

Maritimo's International Sales and Marketing Manager Greg Haines said the team was going extremely well in the Sunday event until the mechanical failure.

"They were neck and neck with the CMS Offshore Racing boat that ultimately won and had it not been for the steering hose mishap things would have been very different," said Haines.

"The boat was travelling at more than 120 miles per hour when the failure occurred and the vessel was sent spinning around slamming stern first into the water breaking a tunnel tab completely off."

Maritimo's race boat was crewed by long time Maritimo race team member and throttle man, Ross Willaton, and driver Travis Thompson.

It was powered by two 1500 horsepower engines and is a tried and proven performer in international standard racing.

Prior to heading to the USA Willaton tipped that the Miss Geico and CMS teams were the ones to beat.

Willaton said the Aussie team's race boat had been set up by Maritimo's team manager and engine builder, Kurt Davies who, along with Andrew Willaton, were the mechanical crew in Key West.

He said the boat would now be shipped back to Australia where it would be repaired, refined and undergo more testing.  Haines said the Maritimo team would be back bigger and better again next year.

He said the experience gained at the coal face of international offshore racing was invaluable in the design and performance of the company's production cruisers....

Maritimo Confident as World Championships Near

Gold Coast based Maritimo Offshore Racing is gearing up to take on the world at the  Key West based  Superboat World Championships early next month with their race boat already on its way to the USA.

Long time Maritimo race team member and throttle man, Ross Willaton, said their boat is equipped with 1500 horsepower engines and is a tried and proven performer which he expects will be very competitive.

"Last year we did not have the benefit of time to iron out all the bugs in the boat we raced, but this boat not only has plenty of power , it is a proven performer and it is also  reliable so we will be right up there I am sure ," he said.

Willaton leaves Australia on October 21st to be on site when the ship carrying the race boat arrives in Savannah at the end of the month.

Once the boat is unloaded he will then take it to Riviera Beach where one of the top teams in the competition, Miss Geico, has again allowed the Aussies to share their race team facilities.

"Miss Geico is one of the toughest competitors around and it is an honour to be able to share their facilities and base our team there," said Willaton.

When the flag drops at Key West early in November Willaton will be at the throttles of the Maritimo entry and Travis Thompson will be at the wheel. They hope they can repeat the team's 2012 performance whenthey took out the world championships.

He said the Miss Geico and CMS teams were the ones to beat.

Willaton said the race boat had been set up by Maritimo's team manager and engine builder, Kurt Davies who, along with Andrew Willaton, will be the mechanical crew in Key West.

He said the Maritimo team was quietly confident about the World Championships after its impressive performance at the recent Coffs Harbour round of the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships.

In that event Willaton and Thompson drew pole position and won both races finishing on top in both the Superboat Extreme category...

Maritimo to Fly the Aussie Flag in Fort Lauderdale

The upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will see Australia's luxury cruiser manufacturer, Maritimo, make its presence felt in a big way.

Maritimo will have a large display at Fort Lauderdale with the M51, M54, M64 and M70 cruising motoryachts on show and its dealer partners from the Caribbean, South America, Europe, the Tri -State area and Pacific North West will be attending.

Two of the company's display boats, the M54 and M64 are already on their way to Fort Lauderdale having arrived in the USA.

Maritimo's International Sales and Marketing Manager, Greg Haines, said this year would be a big one for the company at Fort Lauderdale.

"We have an entourage of owners and Maritimo followers coming to Fort Lauderdale as a lead up to the World Offshore Power Boat Championships in Key West immediately after and as part of that we are going to run a Maritimo owners muster which we expect will be attended by approximately 50 people," he said.

"Our lead USA dealer partners, Galati Yacht Sales, have  even arranged for all our VIP guests at the World Championships to have their own golf carts to transport themselves between the hotels and the action.

"We have a large number of social events planned as part of the boat show and then for the Maritimo race team supporters at the world championships so there will be a real Aussie flavour to both events."

Haines said numerous sea trials would be conducted during the boat show so that Maritimo's international partners, particularly the Europeans, get to experience first hand what the new models have to offer.

He said after a disappointing result in the world championships  last year,   Maritimo was 'quietly confident' in its chances this year.

"The team has been achieving some very impressive speeds in lead up trials and we believe we will be very competitive," he said. Maritimo won the championships in 2012.

New Maritimo M64

Written By: Jay Dee Jackson

Maritimo America VP of Sales

Maritimo was fit to impress at this years Sanctuary Cove boat show taking place on the Gold Coast of Australia. As is tradition the 175 MPH capable Maritimo built race boat was center of the show getting good looks, although was not the center of attention. At this year’s show Maritimo has launched the all-new 3 stateroom 3 head M64!

This boat features some of Maritimo’s best qualities of the enclosed flybridge, internal staircase and deep walk-a-rounds to the bow, while it’s the new innovations that are making this model stand apart. The large VIP stateroom provides transformation on the fly as it features a queen size bed that can be separated into two twins with ease. Head out to the cockpit and you will find the entire transom hinging up with a push of a button. Underneath, a massive amount of storage and the perfect pre-fit spot for a SeaKeeper 16 gyro stabilizer. Just forward of that you will find a Maritimo signature, straight-shaft engines. A beautiful option for this vessel as they are higher in horsepower and lower in maintenance while still giving you full maneuverability with joystick controlled hydraulic bow and stern thrusters.

I was fortunate enough to take this M64 out for a spin and see how it handles and preforms. The test started with tight quarters, maneuvering around many other boats and displays with simplicity as we left the Sanctuary Cove Show. Once out in the never-forgiving Australian open ocean the vessel preformed flawlessly. Taking big seas on the nose with ease, powering through while providing a smooth ride and the ability to continue forward at full cruise speed. While this is something you can always expect from the Maritimo brand the sea worthiness of this manufacturer continues to amaze me. It was an absolute pleasure visiting the beautiful Gold Coast and seeing the handcrafted Maritimo Yachts in production from start to finish.

Maritimo Offshore Race Team Taking on the World in 2016

Media Release

8 March 2016

Gold Coast based Maritimo Offshore Racing is headed into its busiest year ever with new boats, upgraded designs and motors and a goal to be on top of the podium at events from Bowen in North Queensland to  Key West in the USA.

Race team manager and engine builder Kurt Davies said the team has an action packed year ahead.

He said Maritimo would be running three boats in the Australian Offshore Superboat Series including one new boat and two reconfigured boats. The series starts in July and there will be races in Bowen, Mackay, Coffs Harbour, Gosford, Lake Macquarie and Hervey Bay.

"We will use the Australian series to test the boat that we will be taking to Key West for the world championships," said Davies.

"The boat we take to Key West will be shipped at the end of September and it will compete in the Superboat Unlimited category.

"We did not have a good showing at the worlds in Key West last year and that was largely because we did not have enough time to test and refine our competing boat," he said. "This year is different and by using the Australian series to test our boats we will have plenty of opportunity  to refine and improve on our performance.

Davies said Maritimo's founder, Bill Barry-Cotter was heavily involved in the race team and the design and construction of the race boats.

He said Barry-Cotter had a lot of input into what the team does to the boats like the all important  engine configurations.

"We have the capability of reaching speeds up to 220 miles per hour, but in a racing environment we would normally be looking at reaching speeds of 180 miles per hour in the first few laps and then settling back to around averaging 160 miles per hour depending on how hard the competition is running," he said.

" The race boats are exposed to some of the highest stresses in motor racing and because the races...

Maritimo M48

The Maritimo M48 series II is a breathtaking yacht that was designed to impress. As with the other Maritimo yachts, the attention to detail is impeccable. Maritimo has packed a lot into the modest size of the M48 and incorporated several features that are most often standard on larger vessels, such as a full beam master.

The main deck is perfect for entertaining or relaxing with family. It features several social areas that can be combined into one with its fully opening doors. The spacious and inviting aft deck, featuring a large bench for seating, is sure to be a favorite as a great indoor/outdoor living area.

On the other side of the fully opening doors is the galley. The benefit of an aft galley allows easy entertaining from the two of the main living areas with little effort. Aesthetically, the galley is stunning with a contrast between the high-gloss teak cabinets, Amtico floors, and white Corian counter tops. The galley is L-shaped and features an island, two-door refrigerator/freezer, four-burner cooktop, and a pull out pantry.

Following the galley is the salon. This is one of the main socializing areas aboard the Maritimo M48. Like the galley, it has a stunning contrast between light and dark with the high gloss teak and light fabric on the sofas. The salon features an L-shaped sofa with a table on the port side and a three-seat sofa on the starboard.

The Maritimo M48 features three very spacious staterooms with two en-suite heads. The master stateroom is aft, fullbeam, and two-levels! This is extremely rare on a boat this size. The head and closet are part of the upper level in the stateroom and berth, and two lounging chairs are on the lower level. The berth is offset, providing more space in the stateroom. The VIP stateroom is forward and features a nearly queen berth with an upholstered headboard. The third stateroom features twin bunked berths. An option for a utility...

Maritimo M58 at the Annapolis Boat Show

The Maritimo M58 had great success at the Annapolis Boat Show this past weekend. Even though the weather was cold, it didn’t stop the crowd as you can see from the video below. The M58 was one of the most viewed boats at the show with a line of people extending out the tent for the majority of the show! Maritimo’s layout and design features proved to be an outstanding fit for the Chesapeake Bay area. Countless times it was heard “best boat in the show” and “best master stateroom in the show.” After great success at the Norwalk and Annapolis Boat Shows we are excited for the M58 to head south for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, November 5-9.

Maritimo M50

The Maritimo M50 is able to deliver the best of both worlds as it has the amount of entertaining space of a motor yacht and the rough water abilities of a convertible.

The cockpit of the M50 is a very versatile and large space. Off the cockpit is a large stern platform that is perfect for lounging by the water while at anchor. The cockpit features a forward facing seat and a removable teak table. Extra seats can be added for additional seating for dining. Also is the cockpit has additional helm controls to make it easier while docking or fishing.

Bi-folding doors connect the aft deck to the salon, allowing you to bring the outdoors in and for the host to be able to easily entertain from the galley. The galley on the M50 is midship, directly between the cockpit and the salon. The galley features Corian countertops, a cooktop, microwave, full-height refrigerator and pantry, and an Island for extra food prep space. This island allows two chefs to be working in the kitchen at the same time. Off the starboard of the galley are the stairs leading to the enclosed flybridge.

To the foward of the galley is the salon. Having a forward salon has several benefits. First off, it allows for spectacular views out of the wrap around windows. Secondly, it avoids through traffic between the galley, bridge, and cockpit. The salon on the Maritimo has ample seating. On the port side there is a L-shaped settee and table that is perfect for dining as additional chairs can be added making seating for six. On the starboard side there is another L-shaped settee that mirrors the one on the port making the salon a perfect place for socializing.

Below deck on the M50 there are three staterooms and two heads. The full-beam master is aft and its large size is uncommon in a boat this lenght. The mater stateroom features a couch on the starboard side, an office/vanity, and an island queen bed that is set at a 45-degree angle. It has an abundance of storage in drawers,...

G'Day Mate!

Joe Galati and Maritimo Brand Manager, Jay Dee Jackson of Galati Yacht Sales had the chance to tour the Maritimo Headquarters while in Australia last week. This is what Jay Dee had to say.

Wow, what an outstanding experience it was to participate in the Maritimo display in the 2015 Sydney International Boat Show this August. Maritimo truly stole the show with its 7 boat display including their newest models the M48, S48 and M65. Maritimo has race boat building deep in their blood so of course the Maritimo offshore race boat was in the middle of it all with racer Rossco Willaton starting and revving the powerful engines that could be heard across the entire harbor! If that wasn’t enough to get your attention Maritimo parked a brand new Maserati right at the front door of the display.

Joe Galati and I had the opportunity to see the 4 Maritimo boats Galati Yachts has ordered for stock. The M58 and M65 were the most complete and looked stunning. The M58 having the Teak wood interior and the M65 having the Wenge wood interior showing the very different but very exquisite options Maritimo has to offer. The M65 will turn some heads having a true king sized bed in the master along with a full beam head and an enclosed flybridge bigger than the salon of most other boats. We also had time to sea trial the M65 and M48 both of which preformed to the highest level that is expected from the Maritimo product. Back at the factory in the R&D section the new M61 was in the middle of its mock-up stage and will surely be a hit in our Market. This model will follow some of Maritimo’s best selling points of full beam master staterooms, fully enclosed flybridge with internal staircase and aft galley with bi-folding doors to the cockpit.

Maritimo is a unique product that is built in a unique part of the world. The features of sea worthiness, long range and large fuel capacity are expected in the Australian market and really impress the American...

Maritimo M65

The M65 is a head turner; it offers a sleek exterior, plenty of space, and luxurious features.  The aft deck is an extremely versatile outdoor space. It features a forward facing sofa and plenty of room to make it your own. Bi-folding doors connect the aft deck to the salon, allowing you to bring the outdoors in and for the host to be able to easily entertain from the galley.

The galley on the Maritmo M65 is one that would not normally be found on a boat this size. The L-shaped counter along the starboard side and the large island allow for two people to be in the galley comfortably and offers plenty of food prep space. Right off the galley is the salon. The salon offers both comfort and style with an L-shaped couch on the port and a sofa on the starboard. The table in front of the L-shaped couch converts into a dining room table for eight. While guests are eating or just lounging on the sofa they will have spectacular views of the outside due to numerous windows in the room.

Below deck there are four staterooms and three heads. The M65 also features two VIP staterooms and one bunkroom. The Maritimo M65’s master is a nice balance between beauty and functionality. The master has a king-sized berth with an upholstered headboard and a day lounge on one side and a desk/vanity on the other. The master stateroom is full-beam and features a full-beam head as well. Both of the VIP staterooms are cozy and classy. One VIP stateroom has its own head while the other shares with the bunkroom.

Like all Maritimo’s the enclosed fly bridge is a standard. This fly bridge for the Maritimo M65 is essentially a second salon, featuring relaxing seating, a cocktail table, and a wet bar. The large instrument panel allows for up to three 19” glass screen displays. The aft balcony off the fly bridge will provide spectacular views while underway, at the marina, or at anchor.

Luxury cruiser manufacturer Maritimo, which struck a winner with its all new Maritimo M65 cruising motor yacht, has now launched a 'mini version', the M61 cruising motor yacht which has a lower priced entry level while providing many of the same features and benefits of its bigger sibling.

The M65, which was publicly launched at this month's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, has been a popular model for the company with negotiations now underway on boat number seven, but Maritimo saw a niche for a similar styled vessel that sat between the M65 and the M58.

The first M61 cruising motor yacht is in build and will be delivered to its Gold Coast owner in February next year. The owner has had three Maritimo's previously.

Big boat enthusiasts are expected to embrace the new M61, which requires less berthing space than its larger sibling, has almost all the same features, albeit proportionally smaller, and is priced under $2.5 million.

The company expects strong orders for this model and will be revealing detailed drawings and specifications on it at the mid-year Sydney International Boat Show.

"Like the M65 this is a serious motor yacht and the interest we have had in this new model has been tremendous," according to Maritimo Sales and Marketing Manager Greg Haines.

"The boat can come as a three cabin three bathroom configuration or four cabins and two bathrooms or you can even have an office by eliminating one of the bathrooms.

"It has the full beam master suite and virtually everything else that the M65 delivers only slightly smaller. "It will be ideal for people who have limited berthing area and cannot accommodate the M65.

"It is a go anywhere motoryacht which can accommodate a family in style, safety and comfort for some genuine blue water passage making."

Mr Haines said the M61 was powered by D13 900's and could be set up to include crew quarters or accommodate a gyro. Interiors...

Melbourne Maritimo owner Ron Morgan’s only complaint about a recent trip from Port Phillip Bay to Tasmania was that his cray pots didn’t deliver.

Ron on his Maritimo M48 named “ Pearl “, joined with a group of nine other boaties headed from Melbourne to Tasmania, but with two pulling out along the way, a flotilla of seven made the round trip.

“It was a fantastic trip and despite some challenging conditions at times we had a great time and saw some incredible scenery,” he said.

Ron and his wife Kaye purchased their M48 six years ago and spent two months berthed at Marina Mirage and exploring the waters of the Gold Coast and Moreton Bay. After that they headed to the Whitsundays and spent five months cruising those waters before heading south and making their way back to Melbourne and their home at Martha Cove.

They arrived home in March 2009 and have spent most of their time since then cruising around Port Phillip Bay and further afield to Apollo Bay and Refuge Cove.

“I had always wanted to go across to Tasmania and when we heard that some people at the Sandringham Yacht Club were planning a trip with a number of boats we decided to join in,” he said.

“We went to Refuge Cove on the first day and got weathered in for two nights. “After that we headed to Deal Island which is about 50 nautical miles away. “The plan then was to go to Flinders Island, but an expectation of 35 knot westerlies put paid to that.

“Instead we headed to the top of the Tamar River and travelled to Beauty Point , roughly a six and a half hour trip, where we spent five nights at the Beauty Point Yacht Club. “We were looked after extremely well there and visited some nearby wineries and generally tripped around.

“From there we went further upstream to Launceston.”

Ron said the return trip saw them go back to Beauty Point and then on to Stanley. “We stayed...

Queen's Birthday Gone Totally Unexpected

Australian boat industry icon Bill Barry-Cotter says he was surprised to receive a Member of the Order of Australia queen's birthday raceaward in the Queen's Birthday honors list announced at the weekend.

The award was for significant service to the maritime construction industry, to powerboat racing and as a benefactor and supporter of charitable organizations.

"It came as a surprise to me and I feel very humbled by it," he said. "I love doing what I do and over a periodqueen's birthday race of 50 years you just get on with it and keep doing what you like.

"Boat manufacturing has been my whole life and the role I have played in the industry has been done out of passion and commitment to it.

"I never expected to be given any sort of accolade, but an award such as this does make you reflect and take stock.

"I am fortunate that I have a talented and devoted team working along with me and we are producing a product that is world class. "It's is nice to be recognised for that."

Maritimo M48 2016 Captain's Report

The Maritimo product line continues to grow and evolve, and with it comes the introduction of the new M48 presently under construction in the company’s Queensland Australia factory. She’s destined to replace the popular M45 as a two stateroom/two head long range cruising yacht. We're told that the fit-and-finish and exhaustive attention to detail that we’ve seen in the larger Maritimo yachts will be equally represented here as well. Let’s take a sneak preview of what we can expect.
Maritimo M48 still shot

Key Features
Bow stowage locker with saltwater deck/anchor wash with divider
Flybridge 4-sided enclosed hardtop
Large dinette area upholstered station equipped with teak dining table
Salon starboard aft lounge upholstered
Internal staircase to flybridge
Full-beam master stateroom
Kenyon BBQ grill
32'' TV and lift behind to entertainment unit

The new Maritimo M48 will have a LOA of 49’2” (15.5 m), a beam of 16’5” (5.03 m) and a draft of 3’9” (1.20 m). Maritimo is well-known for its enclosed flying bridges.

The Maritimo M48 was around previously as a three stateroom yacht, but it ended up being replaced by the M45, a two stateroom yacht with the master forward that was slightly smaller. It was a popular model and showed that there is a strong interest in the two stateroom design. Customer feedback on the model revealed that customers still wanted the luxury and full features of larger yachts but preferred two staterooms instead of three.

Enter the M48 Series II. She is a two stateroom yacht but this time the master is moved aft and it’s full-beam. A guest stateroom is located at the bow and both are unsuited, offering private access to their respective heads.

Maritimo M48 layouts

Externally, the new M48 carries much the same looks as the rest of the Maritimo lineup. The differences are in the interior layout.
