Cruisers 54 Cantius Boat Test Review

Orgianlly Published by Boat Test

Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius running shot

The Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius has a LOA of 53’7” (16.33 m), a beam of 15’6” (4.72 m), and a dry weight of 43,000 lbs. (19,504 kg).

Mission

Cruisers Yachts designed the 54 Cantius to fill in a gap between the 48’ (14.6 m) and 60’ (18.3 m) models in the manufacturer’s popular Cantius express cruiser line. The design team followed the current trend of having the cockpit, salon, galley, and helm all on the same deck level. Below decks she has three staterooms separated by a lower level lounge area that makes the boat more accommodating (and private) for two couples or more during a weekend getaway.

In all practical respects, the new 54 Cantius is a smaller version of the 60 Cantius which was introduced just last summer. Because she is smaller, she is also less money, therefore, affordable to a wider audience. Nevertheless, she keeps most of the functionality of the 60.

In keeping with the modern approach, the 54 Cantius is powered by twin 725-Volvo Penta IPS950 pod drives that should give the boat solid performance and make her feel user-friendly for captains with a range of skill levels.

Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius engine room

With a pair of 725-hp Volvo Penta IPS950 pod drive engines, the Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius is extremely maneuverable around the dock.

Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius layout

With the cockpit, salon, and galley all on one deck level, the Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius makes good use of available space for both entertaining and family cruising.

The Stern

The Cruisers Yachts 54 Cantius’ surface-level swim platform has plenty of space for watersports and at 4’10” (1.47 m) x 14’6” (4.42 m), may be large enough to support a small tender or personal watercraft. Steps on each side lead to the aft deck where there is a U-shaped lounge wrapping around a hi/lo pedestal table with beverage holders to both sides. Just ahead are two bar stools with access to the galley, which we’ll get...

Cruisers 41 Cantius

Once you step aboard the Cruisers 41 Cantius it is hard not to image yourself cruising on this yacht.  It has flawless transitions between three gathering areas that make socializing with friends and family a breeze and allow for a relaxing day out on the water.

The swim platform on the Cruisers 41 Cantius is very unique and functional. It is 12’ x 54” and features a large countertop with two-pedestal bar stools making it the perfect place to gather while at anchor. Don’t worry though this feature has not compromised the transom storage space one bit. The 41 Cantius still has ample transom storage space.

The spacious aft cockpit adds to the great entertaining ability of the 41 Cantius. It has large L-shape seating with a secret wastebasket nestled behind the forward seat back.  The aft cockpit also features an optional grill and a carry on cooler on the starboard side.

With the use of triple wide sliding doors the indoor and outdoor spaces virtually become one. The helm deck is spacious and comforting. As you enter from outside you will notice the entertainment center on the starboard. It features two levels of bottle storage and plenty of counter space to make entertaining a breeze. There is also a single basin sink with a refrigerator below. Above the entertainment center is a TV that can be swiveled for viewing outside. On the port side of the helm deck is a C-shaped settee with Ultraleather upholstery on an elevated platform.  Forward of the entertainment center is the helm station that provides 360-degress of uninterrupted views.

Moving below deck you are greeted by the galley on the port. The galley the features the essentials for cooking while cruising such as a double burner electric stove with sea rails, a microwave, refrigerator/freezer, and washbasin with storage above and below. Starboard of the galley is the head.

The aft cabin feels spacious with the 6’9” headroom. It...

Cruisers 60 Cantius

The Cruisers Yachts 60’ Cantius is the newest addition to the Cruisers Yachts family. Cruisers Yachts did an incredible job in designing this boat. The 60 Cantius has sleek lines with modern touches. This boat is perfect for a couple seeking adventure as it is easy to handle. It is also prefect for those who love to entertain as it has inviting venues throughout the boat.

Walking through sliding glass doors on the 60 Cantius you will be greeted by the galley. The galley has been strategically placed in the aft for entertaining purposes. By having the galley between the aft deck and the main salon it allows the host to be able to access both with little ease as well as be able to entertain both at the same time. Just as Crusiers Yachts did on the 45 Cantius, the 60 Cantius features an outdoor bar with stools. However, instead of the manual lift up window to the galley the 60 Cantius has a window that rolls down similar to a car window that opens to the galley. In my opinion this is one of my favorite features of the Cruisers 60 Cantius.

The main salon on the Crusiers Yachts 60’ Cantius is pleasantly large and one great note is that the main deck is all one level. The salon can easily sit 9 to 10 people on U-shaped settee and large sofa. When it is time for dinner the table in front of the settee rises and two leaves fold out providing comfy seating for 6 people. It also has a remarkable amount of natural light coming from the large wrap around windows and the big retractable skylight.

Going down to the lower deck you are greeted by a standard stylish lower salon that gets plenty of natural light from the main deck. The lower salon features a 7’ long sofa on the starboard side and a long credenza on the port side. This credenza can house optional equipment such as an icemaker or a wine cooler. There is also an option for a third stateroom instead of a lower salon. This third stateroom is a bunked berth and the bottom bunk is...

Cruisers 390 Express Coupe

Boating Industry Magazine named the Cruisers 390 Express Coupe one of the 2015 Top Products. It is easy to see why as it is one of the most versatile boats I have seen. Cruisers really thought through this boat when they were designing it. Whether you are having a romantic lunch for two or entertaining friends on a sunset cruise this boat is able to easily change to suit your needs. Not to mention the main deck offers 157 sq. ft. of entertaining space.

The cockpit on the 390 Express Coupe a standout feature on this boat.  It is one of the most useful as well as innovative aft deck/cockpit areas that I have seen on boat this size. Cruisers Yachts really thought this area through when designing this boat. The cockpit has at least four configurations it can be. To begin it can be a regular U-shapes settee that is great for socializing. Then when it is time to eat there is a table that can be placed in the center that can easily accommodate six guests for dinner. After dinner when you just want to lounge the table lowers to create a platform for cushions that create a large sunpad. When you want to lay and catch the rays the back rests fold down. The last configuration is that the modules move and you can move the port module outboard.

The ergonomic helm allows you to be in complete control of the vessel. The instruments and controls have been designed to make it feel like they were custom engineered to you. The captain’s seat is a double bench with a flip-up bolster. The companion lounge is adjacent to the helm providing fantastic views of the whole boat. Behind the captain’s seat is the grill/bar that all the amenities you need for a day of cruising such as a sink and fridge.  Above the helm and companion seat is a canvas sunroof that is operated by a control toggle at the helm.

On the bow is a lounging sunpad that is perfect for catching rays. This is a rather large sunpad as a person 6 feet tall can easily lounge on it without...

Cruisers 45 Cantius

The Cruisers 45 Cantius was designed to look and feel like an express boat, but at the same time feel like you are enjoying a luxury sedan. With the 45 Cantius, Cruisers Yachts have been able to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor living, allowing the boat to be used for flawless entertaining.

The galley on the 45 Cantius is brilliantly located between the upper salon and the cockpit. The back window opens and an island counter separates the cockpit and the galley. This makes entertaining easy and insures everyone can enjoy the space together. The galley has ample storage and features a two-burner electric stove, microwave/convection oven, refrigerator/freezer, plenty of counter space, and a 32” flat screen TV & DVD player.

Off the galley is the upper salon. The natural light in this room is uncanning! The Cruisers Yachts 45 Cantius features large windows that wrap the upper salon and an epic retractable sunroof. The upper salon also features a double sofa and dinette. The open concept on the main deck makes it easy to access and entertain the upper salon from the galley or the helm.

The helm features advanced technology to insure you are in complete control. It features fly-by-wire and the Joystick IPS commands the twin Volvo Diesel engines.

Below deck on the Cruisers Yachts 45 Cantius there are two staterooms, two heads, and a washer and dryer. The master stateroom provides a private oasis, featuring a comfortable queen-berth and cedar-lined closets. The en-suite master head can fit the tallest of men with 6’4” headroom in the shower. This master head is timeless with tiling accents and euro-style fixtures. In the aft is the guest stateroom. It features a queen berth and an entertainment area. This entertainment area is designed for movie nights and socializing. It features a port side settee, side lounger seats with footrest that converts into an additional sleeper.

The cockpit on the Cruisers is spacious and features wrap...

Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius (2014)

Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius

The Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius has a LOA (with swim platform) of 48'6'' (14.8 m), a beam of 14'6'' (4.4 m) and a dry weight of 32,700 lbs. (14,832 kg).

The Mission

The 48 Cantius is clearly targeted to veteran boaters who intend to go cruising: maybe with another couple or their children for weekend outings; a possible two week or longer cruise in the height of the season; or a couple of other cruises in the "shoulder" months. In addition, the boat will always be capable of providing pleasant day trips where it serves as more of a swim platform and cabana, or evening cruises when it becomes a bistro afloat with the best table on the water.

We say that it is targeted to "veteran" boaters, simply because there are a number of unique (or, if not unique then rarely seen) aspects of the design which are only likely to be fully appreciated by experienced boaters.

Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius

This is the lower salon in the 48 Cantius. While it is hard to see in this photo because the area is over-exposed, in the upper right is the "cathedral" ceiling that goes into the main cabin above. It is over exposed because so much light is streaming in from above -- which is the whole idea of the design!

Unique Features

To show what I mean I am going to list a few of them here--

Undoubtedly the most noteworthy feature of the 48 Cantius is its "loft" design whereby the bridge deck overlooks the galley and salon below. The first time we saw anything like it this century was in the Lazzara LSX78 which was introduced several years ago. From below there is a cathedral ceiling effect that brings sunshine and air below. From above it is like looking down from a balcony to see what is going on in the salon. It opens up the whole boat and makes it seem far larger than it really is. We predict that this boat will start a trend in class.

Perhaps the second most outstanding feature is the use of large glass windows in the on-deck cabin. Again, the watchword seems to be, "Let there be light!" Port and starboard side windows are huge...

Cruisers 350 Express - Boattest.com

Cruisers Yachts 350 Express

The optional hardtop adds a lot of utility to the Cruisers Yachts 350 Express and when she’s buttoned up with cruising canvas one has a three-seasons boat. We find fall is often the best time of the year to go boating in the Northeast U.S.

One of the secrets of Cruiser Yachts’ success is that it has long recognized that every boat owner uses his boat differently – i.e., has a slightly different. Cruisers Yachts has recognized that phenomenon and offers standard boats for day cruising and entertaining, then puts on the options list lots of amenities and some necessities for longer cruising.

Having said all of this, the one goal that almost every owner has is entertaining. It is here that the Cruisers Yachts' models generally excel, and the 350 Express is no exception.

Cruisers Yachts 350 Express

Our test with the twin 320-hp Mercruiser 377 MAG yielded a top speed of 41.9 mph.

Entertainment Central

The deck of the 350 Express can be one long entertainment platform. Much is made of the walkthrough windshield access being made for more secure movement up to a tossing and rolling bow when needed, but it also serves another purpose. It facilitates guests moving forward to the sun pad and aft to the dining table while at anchor. Kids will like diving off the bow, swimming around to the stern, then doing it all again, racing through the cockpit, climbing through the windscreen to the bow.

Cruisers Yachts 350 Express

The aft sun lounge is optional and features a flip-back seat. Fender storage is to starboard and a four step re-boarding ladder is to port.

Wide open space below is a signature aspect of many Cruisers Yachts, and has been for years. The 350 Express below is typical of Cruisers Yachts' approach: the mid-cabin is set-up to be used primarily as a conversation pit adjacent to the salon. It is open with no bulkhead. Likewise, the bow of the boat where the double berth goes is also open to the salon. The result is that the 350 Express can comfortably handle a crowd below without them feeling cramped and claustrophobic....

Cruisers Yachts 310 Express: Stylish, Comfortable Weekender

At the end of the workweek, what could be better than heading to the beach house for the weekend and unwinding? Well, what if that beach house could be moved from place to place? Sounds good to us, and an easy way for that to happen is with a weekender on the water. That's exactly how we see the 310 Express from Cruisers Yachts, so let's hop aboard and see how it can fit into one's weekend plans.

Key Features

  • Black, Blue, Mocha and White hull colors
  • Aft cockpit seat
  • Helm companion lounge
  • Swim platform with boarding ladder
  • Wet bar with cold faucet and sink
  • Convertible lounge to berth
  • Electric head with holding tank
  • GPS/chartplotter with antenna
  • Cherry laminate interior package
  • Crescent dinette with cherry table

With a LOA of 31'3" (9.53 m) and a beam of 10' (3.05 m) we found the 310 Express to be plenty roomy enough for a party of 4 to live together comfortably for a long weekend.

Performance and Handling

We're boaters first, and sleeping is a little further down the list of priorities, so let's cut to what matters. Upon accelerating the 310 Express has a roughly 10 degree bow rise, which is less than many boats this size, but on the 310 because the boater is sitting so high in the saddle, there's no loss of visibility to the horizon.

I reached planing speed in 5 seconds, but the bow still takes a little more time to come down after that. Once it settles, one will notice a roughly 5 degree bow high attitude (as it should be) to be the norm which again, gives good sightlines of the surroundings.

I fiddled a little with the outdrive trim, and then the trim tabs and found that neither presented any enhancement to the 310 Express' performance characteristics. (In fact, bringing the bow down lower than that will degrade performance slightly.)

With her spray rails carrying well forward, I was carving through the wake of the camera boat and throwing water well off to the sides. Crossing at a beam angle to the wake caused a list that...

Cruisers 41 Cantius - BoatTest.com

With a tall bow and a fine forward entry, the Cruisers Yachts 41 Cantius slices and dices waves, whether they're ICW yacht wakes or rollers in an inlet. At a 13' (4.0 m) beam, lots of freeboard and plenty of buoyancy forward, the Cruisers Yachts 41 Cantius is a capable big-water cruiser that also functions nicely as a party animal. A popular functional feature is the refreshment bar on the swim platform, complete with two pedestal bar stools — a great spot for sundowning at anchor or at the dock.

Cruisers Yachts 540 Sports Coupe Captain's Report

The Mission of the 540 Sports Coupe

The Cruisers Yachts 540 Sports Coupe was designed to be the ultimate express yacht built in class for genteel cruising and superior performance both in terms of top speed and fuel economy at cruising speeds.

The watchword for this boat is "comfort." That means high headroom, large beds, plush reclining seats and settees, and plenty of room in which a number of people can move around without being in each other's way.

Finally, her builder wanted to create a entertaining venue where an owner could host a dozen or more guests and seat them all for dinner or cocktails.

All of that is tall order, but as we will see the Cruisers Yachts 540 Sports Coupe is a very special yacht.

Cruisers Yachts 540 Sports Coupe

Note the room inside, the amount of open deck space both in the cabins in the salon/galley. This is, perhaps, the most important feature of the boat for most people. It is made possible because at 15'6" she is the beamiest yacht in class and she has pod drives which gets the engine room aft leaving more space for accommodations.

Distinguishing Features

Triple IPS Power System. With three 370-hp IPS drives the 540 has the most efficient system available in class -- yes, that means more efficient than two engines when it comes to total fuel burn. (See below.)

Walkthrough Windshield. While this is something fairly common in smaller boats, the 540 is the only boat that has it in class. Women prefer it to access the bow rather than going forward on the "cat walk" side decks.

6'10" Headroom in Salon. The boat looks huge below and one of the reasons is that it has such high headroom.

Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe - Captains Report

The all-new Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe was designed both for entertaining underway and at anchor, as well as to be a comfortable, stylish family cruising yacht. The manufacturer’s goal was to achieve more main deck space and functionality for all sorts of uses -- and, provide more space than any boat on the market in class.

One of the advantages of being the newest design in class is the opportunity to survey everything on the market and do them one better. With a main deck living and entertaining space of 157 sq. ft. (14.58 sq. m), a seating scheme that can be rearranged depending on the occasion, full standing headroom at the helm and a sleek, very Euro hardtop profile, the Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe has a lot to offer. Clever innovations make the boat quite versatile -- much more so than traditional express designs.

Distinguishing Features

• Large cockpit/aft deck

• Moveable on-deck dinette seating module

• Sleek hardtop with large standard sunroof

• Forward cabin salon for maximum seating

• Sterndrive or IPS pod drive propulsion

• Sleeps 6 in two cabins

• Full beam master with love seat

• Large in-hull windows throughout

• Large engine room

Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe aft deck

This is one of the most innovative -- and useful -- aft deck/cockpit arrangements we have ever seen in this size and style of boat. The image above is what we might call "cocktail party" mode -- there is plenty of seating, but also lots of open deck for walking around and mingling. Note the centerline passage to the stern.

Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe dining mode

In what might be called "dining" mode, the port seating module slides to the centerline, creating comfortable place settings for six. Add two folding chairs and make it eight. Passage to the stern...

Innovative Main Deck

The most distinguishing feature of the new Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe is her cockpit/afterdeck. This is where boaters spend most of their time, so this is where the yacht's designers decided to create something remarkably large and functional. There is truly nothing quite like it on the market.

Living Large. The 390 Express Coupe's 157 sq. ft. cockpit/afterdeck was made possible by means of several design decisions. First, the hardtop's windshield was moved forward 3'6" (1.06 m). By doing this the designers could give the boat full standing headroom at the helm and have far better ...

Cruisers Dealer Meeting 2014

Joe Galati, Darren Plymale, Jay Dee Jackson, and I just returned to Florida from our trip to Wisconsin for the 2014 Cruisers Yachts Dealer Meeting. Having been a Cruisers Yachts dealer since 1983, the four of us were excited to represent Galati Yacht Sales and celebrate 32 years of partnership.

The entire team at Cruisers and KCS International put on an incredible event packed with a new model release, vendor meet-and-greets, breakout sessions, factory tours, and an awards ceremony and dinner. We had many great opportunities to interact and collaborate with other Cruisers Yachts dealers and the management team at Cruisers and KCS International. Cruisers has adopted the theme of “Power UP!” this year and is applying it to all of their efforts, including R&D, sales, and customer service. We left the event excited to see what the coming year brings for Cruisers Yachts and the dealers that represent the company.

Day One:

After an easy trip from Tampa, Florida to Green Bay, Wisconsin with a quick layover in Detroit, Michigan, we arrived at Stone Harbor Resort & Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. We made our way to the vendor booths and spoke with several vendors that have partnered with Cruisers Yachts and were sponsoring the event, including Raymarine, Volvo Penta, Mercury, GE Capital, and more. We participated in a dockside reception where we met and greeted dealers from across the country and around the world, a unique opportunity to gain insight into other markets. After dinner, everyone in attendance was asked to once again gather outside on the docks for an introduction to two new models in the Cruisers Yachts lineup, the 328 Bow Rider and the brand-new 390 Express Coupe. The 328 Bow Rider, having enjoyed great success in the Cruisers Sport Series lineup and having been awarded Boating Magazine’s Boat of the Year in 2013, has been moved into the Cruisers Yachts lineup to allow Cruisers Yachts dealers, including Galati Yacht Sales,...

Cruisers Yachts New 2013 45 Cantius

Yacht to be unveiled at the company's annual dealer meeting.

OCONTO, Wis. (August 10, 2012) – Cruisers Yachts, Wisconsin's premier manufacturer of luxury yachts, announced a private unveiling of the 45 Cantius will take place at its 2013 annual international dealer meeting in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., held July 30 to Aug. 1, 2012, followed by a public debut at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show. The cruisers 45 cantius yacht interiorstylish 45 Cantius, complete with Volvo Diesel IPS propulsion, is the sister yacht to both the 41 and the 48 Cantius; the Cantius line originally launched in 2010.
