Day one of the inaugural Naples office Galati Rendezvous was a resounding success. Our morning started at 8 a.m. with a relaxing sunrise cruise through the Southwest coastal waters, led by the Maritimo 50 host boat. After docking at the Galleon Marina in Key West, Florida, we washed and buffed our caravan of yachts. Meanwhile, Team Galati Leaders Dan Howland, Bill McCormick, and David Hirshberg prepared the Maritimo 50 for the "Tacky Tourist" themed dock tail welcome party.
Our spirits were high and our appetites were heavy! A&B Lobster House delighted us with fresh seafood and delicious appetizers. Not to be outdone, Captain Pete Kostuk quenched our thirst – again and again - with tall glasses of his famous rum punch. After lunch, a tour of the Maritimo 50 left our guests in awe by her gorgeous interior and ample entertaining area.
Competition was stiff, and the Tacky Tourist costume contest was too close for the judges to call. Therefore, we formed our own Tribal Council, "Survivor Key West" style, and used a secret ballot to choose our winner. Don Rice was crowned champion, taking home the coveted "tacky tourist tacky parrot" trophy. Congratulations, Don!
We adjourned the day “where the sun sets and the fun begins” with a visit to the world famous Mallory Square, the center of Key West’s historic waterfront for a sunset celebration. I will save day two and the remainder of the rendezvous for another story…Needless to say, however, we had an amazing time!
